Introducing our Commodores
for 2024

Commodore Bob Buckley

  January  2024

Thank you to the members of Sportsmen Yacht Club for your support, electing me to the position of Commodore for 2024.

I studied electronics at the College of San Mateo for two years while also working for Long's Drug Store. This turned out to be a career with Long's of about 40 years, starting as a cart boy, clerk, various department managers, senior department manager, assistant manager, and store manager, working at various stores for 30 years on the Peninsula. From there I moved to the East Bay corporate office of Long's Drug Store as the Director of Human Resource Systems.

Prior to moving to the East Bay, I volunteered for the City of San Bruno Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors for 14 years and President for one year. I was also a part of the San Bruno Lion's Club for 15 years and the Rotary Club for one year.

Janet and I have been married for 47 years and have two daughters, Marissa and Michelle, one granddaughter, Shaianne, and two grandsons, Tyler and Chayse.

My goal as Commodore of Sportsmen Yacht Club is to continue recovering from the the setbacks caused by COVID and get...

"Back to Basics"

Vice Commodore Rich Furlow
 January  2024

It is now 2024! I would like to thank all the members for allowing me the honor to serve as Vice Commodore. I would also like to thank Jim and Lydia Vicknair and all the members for the great job they did in 2023, making all the events and projects a success.

With the upcoming year, we have many projects and events planned. I look forward to working with Bob, Joe, the Board, and all the members to keep the Club moving forward.

I have decided to put retirement off for a little while longer, but plan on spending more time at the Club throughout the year.

Hope to see you all at the Club.

Rear Commodore Joe Artz
 January  2024

Hello my second family!

I've been fortunate enough to have been raised hunting and boating on our beautiful Delta, working 20 years locally in the trades (currently Rivertown HVAC), and enjoying the company of so many interesting and wonderful people.

Thank you all for voting me in to represent the Club as Rear Commodore for 2024. I am looking forward to the next year's projects, along with the completion of our new mechanical systems.

The Club has a lengthy history of great people, fun times and represents what life on our river system is all about.

With the membership's experience, cooperation and involvement, we can do anything.

Joe Artz
